Curl Care in Winter

If your hair tends to dryness, winter can be a special challenge for you: heated air, wind, humid air and very cold temperatures can dry your hair out even more and affect curl definition.

Ever noticed on vacation that your hair was somehow generally different? Quite possible, because besides hormones, care and diet, the climate also affects your curls.

You can't really change the weather. What you can influence is your hair routine, which you can adapt to the changed environment.

Below are some tips that are especially valuable for your hair in winter.

A LITTLE MORE

Adapt your routine to your hair's growing need for moisture by using a bit more Leave-In than usual. A Hair Oil before washing (pre-poo) protects against moisture loss during washing. Apply it after the Leave-In to seal moisture and add protection.

LESS FRICTION

The tools you use matter too, to avoid further damaging already stressed hair. We recommend satin scrunchies and pillowcases, a T-shirt or microfiber towel for drying and blow-drying on the lowest heat setting.

DEEP CONDITIONING

Deep conditioning works wonders. And yes, it can be annoying to plan the 15-30 minute sit time for a mask or Conditioner. But winter is a time when many of us slow down a bit and there's generally less going on. Maybe plan it for your next cozy afternoon on the couch with a book and tea?

PROTECTIVE STYLES

Protect your hair from outside influences by wearing more protective styles (braids, twists, bun, bantu knots). Satin scarves or headwraps are also stylish ways to give your hair a break. CO-WASH

In winter, you can skip the shampoo now and then and wash with a conditioner (co-wash). This is only recommended if your scalp and hair don't tend to build-up or if you generally use only natural products that don't deposit in your hair.
