A healthy scalp matters for your wellbeing and is essential for hair growth. The wrong hair products, washing too often and the climate can dry out your scalp.

A dry scalp can be uncomfortable and cause itching. The tricky thing about a dry and itchy scalp is that it's often treated the wrong way. The dry flakes can be mistaken for dandruff, which is why many reach for anti-dandruff products. But those can be counterproductive, as they're usually formulated for an oily scalp.

Dry scalp needs to be cleansed well and at the same time needs plenty of natural care. Below are the best tips on how to do exactly that. With a few simple routines you can relieve itching, remove buildup and regulate your scalp's pH.

Liquid Afrolocke Shampoo

Our liquid Shampoo is ideal for your scalp. The mix of mild surfactants and nourishing oils cleanses your scalp thoroughly but gently.

Deep cleansing

Once in a while you can add a deep cleanse. Apple cider vinegar works great for this. Mix it 1:1 with water, pour it over your head in the shower and massage it into your scalp before rinsing. Once every one to two months is enough.

Nourishing oil

Massage oil into your dry scalp before washing (pre-poo). It boosts circulation and protects your scalp from moisture loss during washing.

After washing and styling you can massage a bit more oil into your scalp to seal in the moisture you've absorbed.

DIY refresh spray

You can quickly make a spray to refresh your scalp between washes. Mix 250ml of distilled water with 10 to 15 drops of essential oils. Our favorites are rosemary (boosts circulation, anti-inflammatory), lavender (calming, eases itching, antibacterial), mint (refreshing, revitalizing), tea tree oil (antibacterial, antimicrobial) and lemon (stimulating, cleansing).

When needed, spritz on your scalp for instant relief.

Scalp massages

During pre-poo, washing, refreshing or just whenever: your scalp loves to be gently massaged. It boosts circulation and helps loosen buildup. And last but not least, it's wonderfully relaxing.

Just use your fingers, or try a special scalp massage brush.

Try these tips! You'll quickly notice how much better your scalp feels. If none of this helps, it's a good idea to see a dermatologist.
